A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE ARTIST

1. What do you do when you’re not making art? (Day job etc...).

My work is my art. I paint in my studio in Grand Haven, Michigan, occasional plein air, and teach students privately and in painting workshops. I am also a certified life coach, which helps me guide students toward creative and personal growth.

2. Why do you make art?

I love the creative process of exploration, experimentation, discovery, good composition, and personal expression that is found through painting. Beauty and excellence are the goals.

3. What inspires you?

The natural world with its many colors, textures, shapes, spaces, landscapes, and a sense of place inspire me.

4. What/who are your influences?

The artists who have influenced me the most over the last 35 years are William A. Herring (composition), Georgia O'Keeffe (style), Edgar Payne (simplicity and western spirit), Peter Wileman (semi-abstraction and color), Jeanne Dobie (color harmony, theory, and personal expression), and Deborah Bowen (willingness to change.) Impressionism, expressionism, and semi-abstract styles of painting. Beautiful color harmony from a limited palette.

5. If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?

King David of the Bible.
